Dorothy Davis Obituary

Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 720 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Columbus, OH 43203. Interment: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Dorothy Ann Davis was born in Dadeville, Alabama on September 10, 1932, to Herman and Zeola Russell and received her heavenly wings March 14, 2024. She attended public schools in Sylacauga, Alabama and graduated from East Highland High School where she was a majorette in the marching band.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama. She met the love of her life Fred Davis in the 6th grade and he in the 8th grade. We remember our father saying that “she was the silliest girl he had ever met”. They were married in St. Thomas Methodist Church on August 31, 1950, and from this union three daughters were born: Deborah, Lethedia and Kimberly.

Dorothy was quite the homemaker and loved to cook. She made mean dishes and desserts and loved her church hats. She enjoyed a life of extensive travel. Her husband, Fred, enlisted in the Army and in January of 1965, the family moved from Ft. McClellan Army Base in Anniston, Alabama by military ship in N.Y. on (The Mighty Rose) to Germany for three years where the family lived in Munich and Augsburg. Returning to the States in 1968 the family lived in Ft. Knox, KY; Riverside, CA; Syracuse, NY and settled in Columbus, OH. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Syracuse, NY before coming to Columbus. In Ohio, they joined Christ Memorial and worked diligently on the Deacon and Deaconess Board. She and Fred joined Shiloh Baptist Church on January 1, 2018.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Herman and Zeola Russell; brother Junior Russell (Frazie); sister Sallie Bob Goodman (T.J.).

She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Deborah Washington (Rev. Nelson), Lethedia Davis and Kim Perry; granddaughters Tamara Davis, Nakira Hopkins, and Brittainy Lemelle (Ryan); great-grandchildren Jalen Hopkins, Christian Johnson, Jeremiah Hopkins, Soneya Hopkins and Miss Londyn Lemelle. Family members Louise Mckenzie and family; Brenda Crook and family; Willie Lee Lovejoy and family; the Stone family; the Thomas family and a host of other relatives and friends.
